Dun be mistaken.. this is not the annual red carpet event that takes place every year in Hollywood. Instead it was the so caled first trimester screening that all preggy mums to be had to take. But well, it is optional and not really a must have to take. Just that being a first time mum, you tend to be superly overlly cautious and anxious and whatever the gynae recommends, you just say yes yes and yes.
The OSCAR is a scan that takes place between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy, to assess the risk of their baby having Down's syndrome.
This is what happens during an OSCAR Scan
1) sonographers takes an ultrascound of the baby and tries to measure the length and thickness of the neck area (baby had to be in that ONE unique position for the sonographer to take this measurement)
p.s - little one was asleep and had to be woken up by the sonographer continuous rub over one area of my tummy
2) blood samples from the mum to be will be taken for laboratory tests
The above two steps more or less conclude the OSCAR.
My results will only be ready next week and hopefully all will be fine. =)
I shall post the images when they were sent to me. In the meantime, both of us get to find out that Little One now measures 7.25cm and Dr Tan mentions it is may be a big baby. Haa we'll see, both C and me are nor that big size to start off with and hence, we feel it is just the beginning.
One thing that came out good of this visit - I am officially cleared and completed my first trimester! Moving on to the next one which most documented were the best out of the 3 terms. I am spotting a small tummy now and me being petite, the bulge is a but hard to hide now....
